How this person is still a cabinet minister despite 60,000 crore scam under his ministry?

Posted on February 18th, 2010 by admin in telecom infrastructure | 8 Comments »

Union Telecom Minister A Raja’s wife MA Parameswari, a director in Green House Promoters Private Limited, used the Minister’s official residential address as her business address. the managing director of this company too was Raja’s confidant, Sadhick Batcha, from the Minister’s Perambalur constituency. Raja’s nephew RP Paramesh Kumar became the joint managing director. And, like the earlier firm, this company was also based in Chennai.

Swan
Telecom Private Limited, which has been in the news for being allotted in a controversial manner the 2G Spectrum licence, was likely to invest in Green House Promoters Private Limited — managed, as known, by relatives and close associates of the Telecom Minister. , Swan planned to invest in 49 per cent equity in Green House at a dictated price of Rs 1,000 crore.

It may be recalled that Swan Telecom bagged the licence for Rs 1,537 crore for operating in 13 circles in October. Within weeks, it sold 45 per cent of its shares to Etisalat, the UAE telecom giant, for $900 million (approximately Rs 4,500 crore).

Unitech, another real estate company, also entered into a bumper deal without investing anything in telecom infrastructure. The company got a licence to operate in 22 circles for Rs 1,651 crore. Within weeks of acquiring the circles, it sold 60 per cent shares for Rs 6,120 crore to a Norwegian company, Telenor, which is a major telecom player in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

LOL this is not only the opposition which is making an allegation…………..

The miniaster family is involved in the scam…………………..

A CBI inquiry is going on , but since "SAIYAN BHAYE KOTWAL,TO AB DAR KAHE KA"……..

The case would be brushed up again as is the history of all scams involving UPA…………

and in case of modi there is only allegations by leader of opposition in Gujarat…………
Also if NDA has done any scam in telecom badwidth then from 2004 they are in the power who was stopping them for an inquiry…………..

This Congress led UPA govt have break all the previus records as far as corruption is concerned…………
Also "Raja Babu" make a startling admission that "Prime Minister was in the loop behind all the decisions taken in the spectrum issue."

So long as the DMK continues to support the Congress at the center for formation of the Central Government, the party chief can be expected to wangle for his family member or some close crony the
golden eggs laying goose of a ministry styled the IT Ministry and make his percentage secure. One wonders who else is eligible for a share of the booty.Any guesses?I have mine.
Incidentally although I am not a Tamilian (I am however learning the language) our Tamilian friends will appreciate the title I wish to bestow on Raja.He is "The King of the Koojas".In tamil slang,"Kooja" stands for a sycophant.Have a nice day.
Edit:-I find from what my friend,"M S" says that the NDA government kept mum after raising
charges against Raja because he exposed an earlier fraud of the magnitude of Rs.1.5 lakh crores in the same ministry now headed by Raja.My description of the ministry as the " golden eggs laying goose" appears to be apt.Having raked up the issue earlier,Raja probably expects the BJP to return the compliment by keeping mum on his shenanigans.Fair is fair.
But the funny thing is that we,the people are ones who are getting shafted in the whole bargain.Soon we may lose our pants too.Worrisome thought,no doubt.
Edit:-"M S",In the whole bargain of the kettle calling the pot black and the pot retaliating by calling the kettle black,it is we the people who end up paying for the misadventures of our politicans and leaders and enriching them to boot. That is a fact which no one can deny.Right? It falls on the shoulders of the PM to rid himself and the country of wastrels who have no qualms about taking people for a ride.Even the stigma of a suspicion should be enough.Don’t
employers in India suspend employees for even minor
misdemeanors till an enquiry is conducted and the concerned employee exonerated before he is reinstated?
Why not apply the same principle to our lawmakers?

A deep look inside the very workings of Australia’s telecommunications. This is a RIM – one of the most dreaded pieces of telecom infrastructure as it usually results in abysmally slow internet for those unlucky enough to be caught in its path. Has Divestiture Worked? Panel 1 – Historical perspective

Posted on February 11th, 2010 by admin in telecom infrastructure | No Comments »

The Internet Society – NY Chapter (ISOC-NY) & the Open Infrastructure Alliance (OIA) present a 25th Anniversary Assessment of the Breakup of AT&T

The goal of this conference was to outline the history of the last 25 years, discuss the current market issues, then give a view of the future of broadband and telecom in the US that has been mostly untold in the media. It is a future that leads to ubiquitous, very high speed networks based on an infrastructure that is open to all competitors — giving customers choice, lower prices and new quality products and innovative services. And widely acknowledged as critical for long term economic growth.

How does America get gigabit, open and ubiquitous, broadband telecom infrastructure?

EVENT: Has Divestiture Worked?
LOCATION: Warren Weaver Hall, NYU
DATE: Mar 6 2009

PANEL 1: Historical perspective:
* Bruce Kushnick – An overview and leading financial indicators. What happened over the last 25 years?
* Dean Landsman & Tom Allibone – Consumers: telephony costs and other issues of broadband.
* Ken Levy – Living history, perspective from within FCC during the Break Up!
* Alex Goldman – ISP/CLEC industry: regulatory follies over the past decade
* Mark Cooper – The Failure of Market Fundamentalism in the Telecom Sector: How Deregulation Derailed Divestiture or The Operation was Successful, but the Patient Died

Do you think the Fairness doctrine should be applied to internet websites?

Posted on February 11th, 2010 by admin in telecom infrastructure | 7 Comments »

Henry Waxman seems to think so:

http://spectator.org/archives/2009/02/16/in-all-fairness

-snip

Waxman is also interested, say sources, in looking at how the Internet is being used for content and free speech purposes. "It’s all about diversity in media," says a House Energy staffer, familiar with the meetings. "Does one radio station or one station group control four of the five most powerful outlets in one community? Do four stations in one region carry Rush Limbaugh, and nothing else during the same time slot? Does one heavily trafficked Internet site present one side of an issue and not link to sites that present alternative views? These are some of the questions the chairman is thinking about right now, and we are going to have an FCC that will finally have the people in place to answer them."

-snip

The House Energy and Commerce Committee is also looking at how it can put in place policies that would allow it greater oversight of the Internet. "Internet radio is becoming a big deal, and we’re seeing that some web sites are able to control traffic and information, while other sites that may be of interest or use to citizens get limited traffic because of the way the people search and look for information," says on committee staffer. "We’re at very early stages on this, but the chairman has made it clear that oversight of the Internet is one of his top priorities."

"This isn’t just about Limbaugh or a local radio host most of us haven’t heard about," says Democrat committee member. "The FCC and state and local governments also have oversight over the Internet lines and the cable and telecom companies that operate them. We want to get alternative views on radio and TV, but we also want to makes sure those alternative views are read, heard and seen online, which is becoming increasingly video and audio driven. Thanks to the stimulus package, we’ve established that broadband networks — the Internet — are critical, national infrastructure. We think that gives us an opening to look at what runs over that critical infrastructure."

Also involved in "brainstorming" on "Fairness Doctrine and online monitoring has been the Center for American Progress, a liberal think tank, which has published studies pressing for the Fairness Doctrine, as well as the radical MoveOn.org, which has been speaking to committee staff about policies that would allow them to use their five to six million person database to mobilize complaints against radio, TV or online entities they perceive to be limiting free speech or limiting opinion.
Holy Cow writes: "Your source is an anonymous letter to the editor."

Wrong.
Here, Holy Cow, choose a source you’ll like:

Regulating speech of any form because of disagreeing with is a direct violation of the First Amendment, and the government has absolutely no business pursuing this.

Which is a better place to settle down in India, Dehradun or Nainital?

Posted on February 9th, 2010 by admin in telecom infrastructure | 6 Comments »

I am speaking in terms of settlement there, and not as a tourist, so it will include infrastructure facilities like shops, market’s, banks, medical, post office, restaurants, good telecom facility etc etc. Also, what about the climate, roads, law & order..

Would appreciate answers from Indians and Indian’s based in these 2 places.

From a tourist point of view or if you want to send your children in a hostel to study, Nainital is much better. But if you want to settle down, Dehra dun is an undoubted choice. It is a growing city with good buisness potential, good infrastructure and all the positive points associated with a big city.
Nainital on the other hand, is a small town, with a tourist driven economy, working only 4 – 5 months a year, there is no other economic activity, there is absolutely no infrastructure and very poor connectivity with the rest of the world.
Nainital is good to live in for a few weeks at the most.
And by the way, Dehra Dun is not a hill station as someone suggested here, it is a valley ! It has everything from an airport to trains to Pizza Hut to the State Assembly of Uttaranchal.
But before you get me wrong, I love Nainital, even though I stay in Dehra dun. Nainital is a beautiful place.
