The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology is empowered to regulate the telecommunications market in Qatar. As an independent regulator ictQATAR mandate includes licensing service providers and implementing policies that promote competition in the telecom sector in Qatar. ictQATAR also balances the obligations of telecoms service providers with the rights of consumers.
The Telecommunications Law and the licenses issued to QTel and Vodafone contain provisions that can protect consumers in their dealings with the operators. ictQATAR would like to enable consumers in Qatar to make informed decisions by increasing transparency in telecom products and services.
ictQATAR chatted with Dr. Rainer Schnepfleitner, Manager of Policy & Economic Affairs, Regulatory Authority, to talk about “roaming” services and how to avoid a bill shock – a surprisingly high bill you were not expecting.
