What is wrong with my Orange Broadband connection?

Posted on February 14th, 2010 by admin in telecom providers | 5 Comments »

My connection has been awful as of late. To connect I have to take my phone off the hook, then when it connects all you hear from the phone is the sound a fax machine makes. I contacted my phone provider (British Telecom) and they say they’ve done a diognostic check and there is nothing wrong with the phone line. I have bought brand new filters for the Speedtouch modem I use, so that can’t be the problem.
I have been with Freeserve/Wanadoo/Orange since 2002 and never had any trouble until Orange bought out Wanadoo.
Any Ideas?
Is my 5 year old modem burning out? Should I dump my provider or could it be a problem with the phone line?

Check with your provider, and see if there are any other numbers you can use to get onto the internet. When I had dial-up, my provider had seven numbers that you could use. Maybe a different number will help. Sometimes if you change the number, you will get a better connection. My isp had the numbers posted on their website..Good Luck..

I had a similar problem recently, and it turned out to be the internal wiring between by BT master socket and the extension socket where the router was plugged in. Disconnecting all the extensions sockets, and plugging the phone and router into the master socket fixed it (although I still need to get the internal wiring sorted).
