I’m the wife of an ex BT employee. the government ‘tied BT’s hands in order to give the competition ‘a fair chance’ my husband HAD to look after the opposition first in the telephone exchanges all profits went to the government –and BT were not allowed to plough back any money into the company . when at last the company was allowed to ‘fly’ its wings had been severely clipped.

By paying for AOL Talk, paying BT Openreach for line rental anyway. But you are right, almost no-one should ever use BT for calls, at least not chargeable calls (daytime, mobiles, international etc).
