Q&A: How Will Google Voice Affect Telecoms?

Posted on March 7th, 2010 by admin in telecoms | 25 Comments »

In this video, I answer a question from FishTWiT regarding the effect of google voice will have on the telecoms. Google purchased Grand Central which has a lot of features that has one number that forwards to many phones, visual voicemail, and rich filters to route calls based on where calls are coming from. Google voice added SMS, and voicemail transcribing. Yes I think Google voice will have an affect on telecoms. They are positioning themselves to take over the world of telecom. I talk about it more in the video, thanks to FishTWiT for the question.

    It looks like …
It looks like Google voice rely on the phone service to really get itself across. So until Google offers an internet service and a phone service all there own, they cannot be called a monopoly. Also I doubt any of the phone companies will take Google to court about Google voice because of those reasons, they would just be sitting in court to lose money and time they could use to make their own service better. We all know att needs to anyway

Someone told me that “the writing was on the Wall”…. and that thus would be the end to the recently launched ProxyComm MLM
Company…. but they still have not thrown in the towel… Could it be that perhaps they want to stick around long enough to be in a ‘possible class action lawsuit’ against Google?? …. there makes no sense for them to try to compete against FREE.. Yet, if someone knows why it makes sense for ProxyComm, let me know.

I have Grand Central/Google Voice. It works great. The way I look at it, Im sleeping 8 hours, working 8 or 12 and only about 3 hour window to make calls per day. I just log onto a free wifi, check my free voice mail and return all my calls for free. I can answer live calls anytime Im connected to the web. It works for me and my lifestyle. I just wish I had invites to give out to people who want a free phone number for life.
