Ted Kennedy attacks retroactive immunity for Telecoms

Posted on March 31st, 2010 by admin in telecoms | 25 Comments »

Ted Kennedy gave a great speech denouncing Bush’s demand for retroactive immunity for the Telecoms in the new FISA bill…
“It’s painfully clear what the President’s request for retroactive immunity is really about. It’s a self-serving attempt to avoid legal and political accountability and keep the American public in the dark about this whole shameful episode. Like the CIA’s destruction of videotapes showing potentially criminal conduct, it’s a desperate attempt to erase the past.

The Senate should see this request for what it is, and reject it. We should pass this amendment to strike Title II from the FISA bill. Our focus should be on protecting national security, our fundamental liberties, and the rule of law—not protecting phone companies that knew they were breaking the law.”

    Hi.

I’d suggest you read the book which I’d just finished. It’s called “The Vision of the Anointed” by Thomas Sowell.

    @larkydozer: …
@larkydozer: considering how old you are, I’m surprised you are still vibrant enough to have a brain that can discern the tangible from the irrational. Did you even understand what Senator Kennedy was talking about here? Scott Brown is like Sarah Palin: empty calories for the lazy citizens looking for Pablum to be force fed to them by the Republicannots.

  3. larkydozer Says:

    Ted couldn’t make a …
Ted couldn’t make a reasoned argument. This is why he postured and emoted and blustered so often.

    Good riddance.

    Hello Scott Brown!

  4. SuddenSparkles Says:

    I wish we could …
I wish we could have cloned Ted Kennedy. There will never be another this great who has the balls to stand up for the right and truth. He is right to attack the NSA and say that we have created a world where we can never feel confident that we are free from being watched… and our goodness is therefore stolen from us. Amen, miss you Great One. Rest in peace brother of mine… I miss you really bad. Come meet me at the gates.

  5. RightWingTerrorist Says:

    Is this the bill …
Is this the bill that Ted’s only living brother Barack voted in favor of?

He was right then and he will always be right. He was a great man.

    Has anyone got the …
Has anyone got the link where Ted Kennedy gave Bernanke a grilling? I can’t seem to find it on YouTube anymore.

  9. kamak894 Says:

    Who thinks about …
Who thinks about petty rumors during this kind of speech? Ah yes, the partisan types!

  10. yallcanblome Says:

    Ted Kennedy is a …
Ted Kennedy is a coward. After a car crash into a lake, he swam away without saving his girl friend. He died. What a horrible man.

  11. DragonScorpion1976 Says:

    I never had much …
I never had much respect for Ted Kennedy, some things from his past, too liberal on some issues, too much influence for one family {even before the Clintons and Bushes}. But this was freaking brilliant!

Was it partisan? Perhaps. But he and Dodd are definitely on the right side. I don’t care as much the reasons why, I care most that someone, anyone is taking a stand on this issue!

  12. omcx1 Says:

    Not really. Ted …
Not really. Ted Kennedy stands for anything he thinks will help him or his party politically. As long as he thinks it will make the opposition look bad it doesn’t matter what it is, wiretapping that has been going on for 50 years and is nothing new, calling our troops murderers and nazis, providing support to our enemy, trying to destroy the morale of our troops and the Iraqi people, whatever, he stands for it.

  13. mike18at Says:

    I know, but it’s …
I know, but it’s the same principle, privacy intrusion is not something that should be advocated, not on the phone and not on the net. And Ted Kennedy seems to stand for that principle, as far as I can tell.

  14. omcx1 Says:

    You must have …
You must have responded to the wrong video. This is about possible privacy intrusion by telecom companies, not internet censorship.

  15. mike18at Says:

The net needs to be …
The net needs to be more free and uncensored, not less. Ted Kennedy is totally right on this, and I hope there are more politicians left like him in the United States!

  16. omcx1 Says:

    Ooooh. Yet more bad …
Ooooh. Yet more bad news for the democrats. The total number and breakdown of registered voters nationwide was just released and there are 2% less Democrats and 2% more Republicans than last year. It looks like even some Democrats are getting tired of the lies, troop-bashing, and treason.

  17. omcx1 Says:

    More bad news for …
More bad news for liberals (but not necessarily Democrats). In the november elections, 89% of the candidates (Republican and Democrat) who were endorsed by the National Rifle Association won their races. I guess the dumbing-down of America attempted by the liberal NEA and teachers unions has not been so successful after all.

  18. meweave Says:

    Haggard is a creepy …
Haggard is a creepy Christian conservative who fooled his fellow evangelicals in supporting a party that only uses christianity to collect votes. As you might have noticed your party is far from the christian idea of helping the poor and sick. It’s just more hypocrisy from the GOP.

  19. meweave Says:

    Do you think Bush …
Do you think Bush would leave troops in Iraq w/o funds needed? He would be forced to deploy. I’m supporting the party trying to bring them back alive. We should be back in Afg. where Osama was and stabilized THAT country. Now the M/E is worse than ever with the Taliban coming back, the assassination of our only ally in Pakistan. The whole thing is screwed b/c of the previous rubber stamp congress. We need leadership to fight and defeat the enemy. We need what we had in WWII. DEMOCRATS!

  20. omcx1 Says:

    If they have the …
If they have the same skills and other qualities of course. What is your point?

  21. omcx1 Says:

    Could you be …
Could you be anymore wrong? I am beginning to believe you are lying about having a husband in Iraq. How could one with a relative in Iraq be so ignorant of the facts and so supportive of the party that has been trying to get our soldiers defeated? The first and biggest affect of de-funding the war is depriving the troops of the material they need. That’s what war funding does. Why are you so obsessed with that scheister Haggard? He isn’t a conservative, he’s a fraud and a wacko.

  22. meweave Says:

    Bitter and biased. …
Bitter and biased. Ha! What color is that pot? Gee, thanks for that “support”. Defunding the war is not defunding the troops. A REAL Conservative would know the difference. Neo Con! BTW, in case you didn’t know, Haggard doesn’t really like women. Put your knee pads on and pay the man.

  23. meweave Says:

    Republican …
Republican Congressman Donald “Buz” Lukens was found guilty of having sex with a female minor and sentenced to one month in jail. Republican fundraiser Richard A. Delgaudio was found guilty of child charges and paying two teenage girls to pose for sexual photos. Republican activist Mark A. Grethen convicted on six counts of sex crimes involving children. Republican activist Randal David Ankeney pleaded guilty to attempted sexual assault on a child.

  24. omcx1 Says:

    I want to thank …
I want to thank them and all of the Democrats as well. Thank for calling our troops terrorists, nazis, murderers, butchers, criminals, and failures. Thank you for doing all you can (including treason) to try to help the terrorists win this war in the hope it would help you politically. Thank you for trying to turn a long-time ally against us in the hope they would stop letting us supply our troops from their country. Thank for everything you have done that will get you crushed in 2008.

  25. omcx1 Says:

    Go ahead, keep …
Go ahead, keep cutting-and-pasting from your “Bush blew up the World Trade Center” sites. So many of the claims turned out to be bogus that I don’t waste my time checking them out anymore.
